Steadfast Travels

Sheri watching through a look bucket We crossed into the Bahamas January 24 and crossed out March 30. Counting those days we were away for 67 days. We traveled 1144 nautical miles (1316 statue miles) From US anchorage back to US anchorage. We walked on 27 islands. We also anchored and/or snorkeled around another 8. We did not need to purchase water (we had to pay 8.00 for unlimited water the Marina) We sailed half the time, motor sailed 25% and motored 25% We anchored all but 4 nights including one night in a marina The scenery was spectacular and the Bahamians welcoming Thunderball Grotto It was less intimidating than we were expecting Yes, God willing, we’ll go back again

I’ve been lining up this trip to head back to the states for over a week. 273 nm with 4 stops researched. Listening to weather broadcast and looking at weather apps confirm that these next few days are as close to perfect as I could hope for. Amen! For the first two days wind and waves should be coming from the starboard side which would allow us an opportunity to sail which in turn saves fuel. I want to have extra of food, water and fuel should we have to quarantine when we get stateside. I listen to reports from other boaters effortless entering into the US and all I can think is that “my results may vary”. On Thursday night the thing I know for sure is that tomorrow we go. Friday, March 27 we head out of the anchorage at Norman‘s Island and make our way across the White Bank towards New Providence.                      (You can/should tap on these pictures to zoom in and get the whole story) On Thursday 3/19 we were waiting around like a lot of locals for the supply ship to come in. I was planning to leave first thing but didn’t want to go without the backup propane tank filled and it was a good thing cause the morning tide washed in our sailing buddies Marshelle  and Purrfect. Since we had 2 days of experience at Black Point we joined Purrfect to tour the town. Trash goes there, sharks here, bread over there and two convenience store sized grocery stores. It’s a quick tour and on the way back we stopped at the laundry dock to visit with Dave and Shelley. By the time everyone had gotten bread and groceries the supply ship arrived and there was a flurry of activity. There were as many people hand carrying items away from the town dock as there were trucks and cars moving larger loads. Somewhere in that commotion ...
